Essence Magazine held its 3rd annual street style block party ( as part of the annual Essence Street Style Awards) under the Manhattan Bridge Archway in Dumbo this past Sunday and it was LIT.I was invited by Chevrolet to join in on some fun. Everyone from style bloggers, fans of fashion and even children showed up dressed to kill. Essence is known for displaying the latest street styles in black fashion. People of color aren’t featured enough in fashion, events like these give us freedom to show off personal style while admiring other style icons. If I had to narrow it down to 3 reasons why I love attending it would be because of the message, the fashion, the fun and who doesn’t like to see Wichita Chevrolet Equinox new design for the year?
1.The Message: Yes, this event is catered to black fashion, but pay attention to the message. This event sponsor, Chevrolet, continued their campaign #FuelYourHustle which is all about what helps develop a relentless work ethic that allows you to continue to hustle. Of course, there was a car theme throughout the event — from talks about savvy reviews when it comes to car insurance to making fuel more affordable — but the main theme was to focus on your hustle. What inspires you? What keeps you motivated? This year, Chevrolet brought back designer/mentor Ron Bass along with a couple new faces, including jewelry designer Truly Rachel, visual artist Jade, and DJ Fab Roc to share their talent and to give some tips on how to #FuelYourHustle.
2. The Fashion: Black women/men have always set the pace in fashion, we are rising to the forefront and are starting to be recognized as the tastemakers in the fashion world. Events like the Essence Style Block Party/ Street Style Awards allows us to come together and admire each other’s beauty. It’s a celebrate of style and grace!
3. The Fun: On Deck, there are street vendors, food, entertainment for adults and children and fun activation booths. The Chevrolet Booth had the best entertainment, including: Jewelry shopping brought to you by Truly Rachel. A Silent Dance Party brought to you by DJ Fab Roc and Art Work brought to you by Jade. Plus who doesn’t love taking pictures and checking out the latest cars on the market?
Overall I had a great time, I think my favorite part was getting to chat it up with my followers and meeting new faces. Plus, I had a chance to meet influencers who inspire me daily. Thanks Chevrolet for having me this year and you guys stay tuned for my tips on how to #FuelYourHustle.
