Do you pick a word for the year? Picking a word of the year is how I like to start off my new year resolutions. It helps me stay on track with my goals. I’ve been doing it every year since 2018. Check out last year’s word of the year here. I like to pick a word that is relevant for me at that time and something I want to incorporate into my life during the year. A word is easy to keep in the back of my mind and helps influence the decisions I make and the direction I’m going.
This year my word of the year is consistency, which has been something that I have struggled with in various areas of my life. I have always been good at hitting the ground running on something but struggled to keep plugging away when things slow down or get hard. I see so many people around me whom I admire build huge bodies of work through consistent learning and action. I am in awe of this and I know that it is an area that needs work from me. This is where growth happens. This is where legacies are created.
CONSISTENCY
Meaning: conformity in the application of something, typically that which is necessary for the sake of logic, accuracy, or fairness.
So, this year I will strive to have consistency in the following areas.
- Financial: I’ve been doing pretty good with my finances, but I do need to stay on top of my budgeting and saving and setting up generational wealth considering if I decide to retire anytime soon. In the back of my mind, the savings also have to do with the reality that most people save money so they may live comfortably after retirement and are not dependent on others for things like repeated trips to the doctor or value-based care in Fort Collins (or wherever they reside). That is one of the things on my mind while I save money for myself. However, I’m not sure if I’m on the correct track or not.
-
Business: I have so many exciting things planned for my business this year but consistency is the only thing that will keep my business on track, especially with acquiring clients. I have thought that if everything goes well, then I will perhaps opt for a loan (from the likes of Florida Capital Bank, which is known to offer small business loans florida) to expand my business. I think that it is high time I grow my business as I cannot be stagnant. One has to understand that consistency and stagnancy are different from each other. I want to achieve the first one, not the second one!
That said, my business coach has been very helpful in guiding me to plan everything from my product branding to finding services for business catering County Durham for my events. Ensuring consistency does require a great deal of planning. I am grateful for all the support provided by my managers and development team throughout my journey as a businesswoman. I may also have to think about implementing some extra help so I can stay on top of what I need, perhaps software like onestream and others like it will give me some breathing space for the other things I’ll need to be managing. - Physical: This is one area in my life that I have always struggled with and I had to call in the big dogs for, basically to help me commit to consistency. I really just need to be more active when it comes to my fitness.
Now that I’ve decided to create consistency in my life, I will try to remind myself: Consistency is more important than perfection. If I mess up, it’s ok. I give myself permission to make mistakes. But then I’ll pick myself up and keep moving forward. Do you pick a word for the year? What will be your word to focus on this year? I’d love to know.
Looking forward to a great 2020!
